Dana will be National Portrait Gallery’s choreographer-in-residence

Dana Tai Soon Burgess has been named the Smithsonian’s first choreographer-in-residence at the National Portrait Gallery. For the next three years, Dana will create new works inspired by museum exhibitions and participate in public discussions about dance and art. In addition, Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company will premiere the new dances in the museum. Kim Sajet, director of the National Portrait Gallery said “Dana’s work brings to life stories and emotions and enriches the life of the museum.”

To kick off the partnership, Burgess will create a new work focused on American diversity in conjunction with The Outwin, the museum’s triennial portrait competition (on view through Jan 8, 2017). The work will be performed this fall.
