Picasso Dances at The Kreeger Museum

October 25 | 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Kreeger Museum and Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company are thrilled to announce a two-year residency for the Company at The Kreeger Museum. This collaboration grows out of an ongoing relationship between Burgess and The Kreeger Museum. Between 2015 and 2025, Burgess choreographed three new pieces inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Helen Frankenthaler, artists represented in the Museum’s permanent collection.

With this two-year residency comes a new twist on Picasso Dances. The original 20-minute dance was inspired by four of Picasso’s pieces from The Kreeger Museum’s permanent collection: Seated Nude Leaning on Pillows (1964), Man with the Golden Helmet, after Rembrandt (1969), Still Life with Fruit, Glass, and Newspaper (1914) and Head of a Woman (1929). Now, with a nod to the artist who frequently revisited and reinterpreted subjects, Burgess will include new choreography based on two additional works from the collection for an extended 30-minute dance piece.

The performance will take place at 3:00pm followed by a glass of wine on the Terrace. Seating will be first come, first served.
